Indie pub hosts classical gig

HAMPER madness didn’t stop at the New Journal quiz held last week at one Camden Town pub – on Sunday another got in on the act.
Following on the heels of the Oxford Arms in Camden High Street, the Dublin Castle pub in Parkway – long-known as an indie music stronghold – held its first-ever classical music concert in aid of our Hamper Appeal.
Former barmaid Aglaia Tarantino tickled the ivories while her opera-singing collaborator Caterina Argese hit the high notes at the charity benefit gig.
Publican Henry Conlon, who fronted all costs of the gig – including hiring a baby grand piano – put all money raised to the Hamper Fund.
He said: “It was a great afternoon and a great day at the Dublin.
“Classical music has never been played here before but it certainly has a place here now. They were brilliant, and the audience loved it.”
