Camden New Journal - Letters to the Editor
Published: 20 December 2007

Boris gets my vote!

• THE impact of our terrible housing shortage is clear.
In my work I meet families in London working hard and earning what looks like a solid wage but who cannot afford the simplest of goods because of the housing crisis.
I once delivered leaflets for GLC Labour candidates in St Pancras so I am amazed to tell you that there is a candidate who is promising to do something serious about the problem – but it isn’t Ken Livingstone.
Boris Johnson, of all people, gave the best and most serious speech on housing I have heard in years. It stressed the need to find different solutions for the problems in Camden and Croydon, pledged to do what he can to increase housing supply and spoke clearly and meaningfully about poverty in a manner which Ken has long forgotten how to do.
Ken’s recent concerns for the needs of Caracas rather than Camden seal the deal for me. Nosepeg firmly attached, I will be voting for the only candidate to make a serious contribution to the housing debate.
