• HOW can Simon Wroe (It’s no Zen garden centre as burglars bag Buddha statues, November 29) justify the expression “the pot-bellied gods” to describe the stolen statues?
I am afraid he is perpetuating the mistake of confusing the Buddha’s image with that of the usually grinning and overweight, pot-bellied image of the Chinese god of abundance and enjoyment, which has no connection with Buddhism and belongs to quite another belief.
