Camden New Journal - by STEVE BARNETT

Phoenix book spot in semis

HIGH-FLYING Phoenix set up a mouth-watering showdown against rivals Reddot on Sunday when they soared into the final four of our Camden New Journal Challenge Cup with a hard-fought victory over Cobden Athletic.
Mark Doyle fired Phoenix into an early lead when he slotted the ball home from close range after James Cole’s initial effort was parried by keeper Martin Halpin.
Phoenix looked to be heading for a comfortable win when Doyle doubled their advantage with his second of the game.
But Division One league leaders Cobden showed great spirit as they battled back to equalise before the break.
Joe Thompson reduced the deficit with a neat finish from just inside the box, before Kaleb King levelled matters on the stroke of half-time.
In the second half captain Darren May dragged Phoenix from the ashes when he restored their lead with a clinical finish.
The unstoppable Doyle put the game beyond Cobden when he side-footed home to complete his hat-trick.
Leading scorer James Cole added the finishing touches to a 5-2 victory with his 14th goal of the season. Phoenix will now face cup holders Reddot in the semi-finals. The Dots moved a step closer to retaining their crown after they beat CS Maritimo 1-0 thanks to a thunderous free-kick from winger Jon Dowsett (pictured inset).
Phoenix and Reddot will go head-to-head this Sunday in a dress rehearsal of their highly anticipated Challenge Cup contest when they meet in the quarter-finals of the Senior Cup at Hackney Marshes.
Archway Allstars also progressed into the final four of the Challenge Cup after they came from two goals down to beat Desportivo.
Top scorer Leigh Hartley bagged a brace, while James Birney and Anthony Hassan were also on target as Archway clinched a thrilling 4-2 victory.
