Town Hall lead the way on dog training

STOPPING just short of teaching old dogs new tricks, Camden Council is doggedly trying to counter canine control problems in the borough by educating owners.
Man’s best friends and their owners will be taught the art of poop-a-scoop at a dog-
training event launched this Saturday in Camden Square.
Whether it be new dog control orders or the pavement presents frequently left by our four-legged friends, council chiefs hope the first Dog Owners Get Smart Day will stop residents from putting their foot in it.
Free dog-tag engraving and micro-chipping will also be provided by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, and a vet will be on hand to answer questions.
In the face of protests by animal lovers, the dog control orders, which came into force in May, were a watered down version of the council’s original proposals, though failure to pick up a pet’s faeces is still likely to land owners in the dog house.
Experts will demonstrate how to clean up after dogs, and announce the new dog exclusion zones, which include children’s playgrounds.
Councillor Mike Greene, Camden Council’s Executive member Environment, said: “We want to work with residents to give guidance and share information about the new dog control orders and help spread the message of responsible dog ownership.”.
