Camden New Journal - Letters to the Editor
Published: 29 November 2007

Greetings campaign

• AS people start to put together the greetings card list this year, I would like to ask readers of the New Journal to add one or two extra names to their list.
Amnesty International’s annual Greetings Card Campaign provides hope for people who are in danger or unjustly imprisoned. Knowing someone’s watching can strengthen and empower people as they confront injustice, and it sends a powerful message to the authorities.
When you contact your own loved ones, please send one more card offering a message of hope and solidarity to someone somewhere in the world who would appreciate your support.
It can impact the life of someone like Lee Si-Woo, an anti-landmines campaigner from South Korea who stands accused of disclosing military secrets; or of people like Ruslan Bessonov, Maksim Genashilkin and Dmitri Pavlov, three teenagers from Azerbaijan who were imprisoned after an unfair trial and are at risk of torture.
Send one extra card to show your solidarity and help challenge injustice.
For more details call Amnesty International on 020 7033 1777 or visit St Marks Church, Prince Albert Road on December 1, from 10am-1pm to find details of individuals together with cards and stamps.
