Camden New Journal - by STEVE BARNETT

Ex-mayor has goal of helping Bangladesh

Camden Labour Group’s leaky defence made the Titanic look watertight on Monday night when they conceded nine goals to our very own reformed CNJ team.
But their schoolboy blunders were rewarded in the shape of a big charity cash haul when one generous player pledged £10 for every ball picked out of the onion bag to the Bangladesh Relief Fund.
Dynamo midfielder and former Mayor of Camden Nasim Ali raised £90 from the whirlwind
9–9 draw, which will go towards rebuilding the stricken south Asian country following the devastating recent cyclone that has killed over 3,000 people and left many more homeless.
An aching Mr Ali said: “For once we weren’t too upset that we were a little shabby at the back. On a serious note though, this is just the start of a big push to raise money to help the humanitarian mission. We are hoping to play some more fundraising games, and will challenge anybody to step up and give us a run out.
“Bangladeshis are by far the borough’s biggest ethnic minority and I want everyone to get involved because the country is a mess at the moment,” he added. “I also want to assure everyone that gives money that every penny will go into the right hands.”
On Monday’s performance, prospective challengers haven’t got much to fear. Eschewing their usual firebrand red, the Labour men opted to play in Spurs kits in a bid to rile the Gooner-dominated newsroom. After storming into an early 6-3 lead, the Labour team were pegged back by the newspapermen.
True to form, they managed to spin their way from the jaws of defeat and snatch a draw with a last-gasp equaliser.
