Sacking as fraud inquiry continues

TENANTS claim they have been kept in the dark about a six-month investigation into alleged fraud on a Regent’s Park estate which has resulted in the sacking of an employee.
The housing officer was dismissed in the midst of a police investigation into rent fraud on the Crown Estate-owned Cumberland Market estate, which is home to 400 key workers and social housing tenants.
Since May, the Met Police’s fraud investigation unit has been probing allegations of misappropriation of rent at the estate, next to Regent’s Park.
This week, the Crown Estate confirmed that, while the police are still involved, its probe into staff misconduct had concluded and an employee sacked. A Crown Estate spokesman said: “We continue to work closely with the police to help them in their inquiries.”
Crown Estate Residents Association board member Suzan di Santo said: “There are a lot of people who want to see greater transparency here. I’m not sure that the management realise what damage it has done to the levels of trust between tenants and landlords.
