World Cup wonders

ARSENAL and England captain Faye White rubbed shoulders with government and football bigwigs on Wednesday as her national side was honoured by the minister for sport.
England lost to No 1 team, the USA, in the World Cup quarter-finals in September.
But they won praise for their performances from FA director of football Trevor Brooking, sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe and self confessed Arsenal fan and culture secretary James Purnell at the event near Trafalgar Square.
Mr Sutcliffe said the World Cup was “all that was good about football to me” and said the government would work to promote the women’s game when the FA’s task force announces its findings in the coming months.
White was joined at the event by five of her Arsenal and England colleagues, who went on to hit five past Charlton without reply the following night and nine against Cardiff on Sunday.
Arsenal will bid to reach the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup on Wednesday (November 21) when they host Olympique Lyonnaise at Boreham Wood FC at 7.30pm.
