Agony and ecstasy for marathon’s charity ace

WITH the New York City Marathon under her belt, Bloomsbury councillor Rebecca Hossack has returned even more determined to paint London streets a darker shade of green.
The art dealer ran the world-famous 26-mile course in four hours and 50 minutes. “That’s twice as long as Paula,” Cllr Hossack said. Long-distance runner Paula Radcliffe finished the race in two hours, 23 minutes just 291 days after giving birth to a daughter.
The Tory councillor has already raised £17,000 from marathon sponsors. The money will go to Street Tree, a charity which campaigns for more tree-planting. She hopes further donations will take her to a £28,000 target.
On her run, Cllr Hossack noticed that every street in New York has trees. “I took lots of photos of the trees,” she said. “The community spirit is fantastic there.
“We ran through all the boroughs, from Brooklyn to the Bronx, ending up in Central Park. The last six miles were agony.”
