D-day for police stations

THE fate of police stations in Rosslyn Hill and Kentish Town will be known this week when a Met Police property report ends years of speculation.
The drive to modernise the capital’s police stations has seen traditional blue lamp stations replaced with depot-like headquarters in parts of London, sparking fears that Camden police will sell off its most lucrative – and old-fashioned – buildings and withdraw from the heart of the community.
The issue has been complicated by the fact that public affection for buildings like the listed Hampstead police station is not matched by serving officers required to operate in what the borough’s top officer has called “19th century conditions”.
The Metropolitan Police Authority’s estate strategy will be publicised for consultation today (Thursday).
