Mine’s a pint, guv’nor! Camden’s publicans let loose on their big night out

PULLING no punches on the dance floor and no pints behind the bar, publicans took a well-deserved night off on Tuesday.
The annual CILLA ball, the Camden Inner Licensees Association, held at the London Irish Centre in Camden Square, is one of the hottest tickets on the pub workers’ calendar.
All in the name of fundraising for charity, last year publicans, bar workers and regulars dug deep to raise £3,500.
With disco dancing into the early hours, it’s the night when the landlords and landladies show their punters how it should be done.
Camden’s police licensing chief Sgt Bob Dear – whose wife Mady won a computer games console in the raffle – is a familiar face at the ball.
He said: “It’s all for charity and shows the good work the licensees do.”
Acknowledging that the smoking ban brought in this year had been a challenge, he praised publicans’ efforts: “It’s been a hard six months for licensees but it’s been well handled.”
