Beautiful fish should be allowed to live in peace

• YOUR articles have driven me to write to you regarding fishing on the Heath (Threat to wildlife and It was at least this big, October 25).
I go to Hampstead to enjoy nature and the surroundings of the Heath. I find it unsettling to see people killing fish and pulling them from the ponds. It seems at odds with what the Heath should be about, it is a nasty and negative activity. You have condemned the fishing practices in one article but then in another article glorify the ripping out of the pond a beautiful fish that should be allowed to live in peace in a natural setting.
Fisherman block the paths with all their paraphernalia and set up tents with beds in them.
I see young kids fishing and doubt how responsible they are with their tackle and hooks afterwards.
I doubt the responsiblity of some of the older people fishing, too, judging by their behaviour. The Heath constabulary seem to turn a blind eye to all of this, too busy trying to find the odd illegal cyclist. Fishing should not be allowed in a setting like this, but the Heath constabulary should be visible, monitoring the behaviour I mentioned. It would be interesting to hear if any other readers feel the same.
