Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 25 October 2007

A witness to waste

REGARDING Penny Abraham’s letter (Patients’ lifeline a second home to countless people, October 11) and the “second home” assertion: While a client at the Highgate Centre a few years back I observed examples of profligate waste.
Apart from potentially dangerous group therapy sessions each morning, there was little else. The opportunity to shop for, prepare, and contribute towards a healthy lunch was probably the most positive activity.
The purpose-built facilities (for a different clientele) were underused to the point of absurdity.
With a different regime the centre could have catered for at least three times the number of clients and been open seven days a week from 8am to 10pm.
