Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 25 October 2007

The area does not need any more social housing

• A CONCENTRATION of (alleged) “terrorist targets” with clear and easily defended individual or shared perimeters, of the kind the Brill Place site has enjoyed since it was constructed as a goods yard, is a far safer proposition than isolated facilities out in the sticks (Terrorism fear over Brill Place, October 11 and We’ll fight until the death, October 18).
Look at the escape of foot and mouth bugs from a “secure” country facility at Pirbright for example. The proposed development gives the town hall a chance to remedy its failure to impose beneficial local education, training and employment conditions in relation to the King’s Cross and British Library developments.
It also gives government an opportunity to boost a locally focused 21st century biotechnology industry. Development of a biotechnology industrial complex in this district would put Camden on the global high tech industrial map.
Opponents do not have a leg to stand on. Somers Town does not need more “social housing” to aggravate an already unbalanced population with all of the inevitable anti-social consequences including sub-standard health and education services and representation by those whose power base is a selfishly cultivated ghetto.
