Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 18 October 2007

Results tell of policing successes

• PEOPLE have taken a lot of space in your pages in recent weeks to say not very much, but all negative, about Safer Neighbourhoods policing.
I will be briefer, but with more content.
In the last three months, Gospel Oak Safer Neighbourhoods police statistics register significant drops in burglaries, robberies and motor crime in the ward. Street drinking has been reduced to the point that it has been removed as a priority by the Gospel Oak Safer Neighbourhoods citizens’ panel.
Focus on drugs activity in the Wellesley Road area has seen major drug seizures and arrests and an overall reduction in activity, while surveillance and intelligence in partnership with Camden Council agencies has had a positive effect on anti social behaviour. Informal public feedback reports a perception of genuine improvement and support for the Safer Neighbourhoods team.
These results show that, here at least, two years of SN policing have produced success.
CHRIS FAGG
Chair, Gospel Oak
