Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 18 October 2007

Real police, please…

• I REFER to the letter (Policing successes with Safer Neighbourhoods, October 11) from Simon Horvat-Marcovic and Steve Sheppard Inspector Centrol Causton Safer Neighbourhoods teams.
What do they mean by “each member is bound by the terms of the constitution”? In addition “every member has to report any breach of constitution” sounds like a dictatorship neighbourhood panel to me.
Myself and neighbours should benefit most from Safer Neighbourhoods teams, our street has one team on the east and one on the west side.
I have only seen them on one occasion. I want fully trained police officers on our streets and police stations open 24 hours. Drugs and crime are out of control. Nearly 5,000 crimes have been declassified by government to improve crime figures.
I am 67 years and I challenge the Safer Neighbourhood teams in West Hampstead to a race – running or walking – all of them not a select few. If I finish last I will donate a four-figure sum to the New Journal Christmas appeal. So many of these teams look unfit I don’t feel safe with them.
