Hospital check for the premier

THE Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer took some time out of their hectic schedule to visit University College Hospital.
Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling took a tour of the Institute for Nuclear Medicine in Fitzrovia on Tuesday.
While there, they were treated to a demonstration of the latest cutting-edge machine being used to diagnose cancer and treat cardiac patients.
Robert Naylor, chief executive of UCLH NHS foundation trust said: “The Prime Minister showed a very keen interest in the facilities at UCH and our leading position in biomedical research.
“He was particularly impressed by the extent of collaborative research between the trust and UCL and our plans for the provision of healthcare over the coming years.”
“I explained to the Prime Minister the importance of our designation as one of the five comprehensive biomedical research centres and our vision to develop this into a truly world class academic health sciences centre with UCL,” Mr Naylor said.
“This would enable our patients to be the first to benefit from new medical discoveries, using nuclear medicine as an example.”
