Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 04 October 2007

Hypocrisy in the Parking Services

• ROBIN Mackay Millar’s letter (Why did parking wardens walk past this car?, September 27), highlights the hypocrisy of Parking Services but, as we all know, there is more.
Despite a change in leadership, the council’s Parking Service continues with abusive and bullying practices. I was given a ticket despite the fact that this office admitted in writing that I was given permission. They are now demanding £500. The real problem is that Camden’s Complaints Procedure, and its Central Complaints Unit, are not worth a broken biscuit. Residents (or should I say voters) could apply to the Local Government Ombudsman. Save your time, folks; not one single complaint against Camden was upheld by him in the last few years.
This is a destructive combination – an ugly and out of control department, and a worthless complaints process, destroyed the Labour administration in last year’s election; and if Camden’s new government does not wake up, the same will happen to them.
I called upon Camden’s Chief Executive, Moira Gibb, to run a thorough and searching inquiry into the behaviour of Parking Service. She refused. Her position must now be considered by the Lib Dem/Tory Alliance before they face a massive and humiliating defeat not only in 2010, but also in local constituencies in the General Election.
