Standing by the rules

• I AM outraged at the perfidious Labour suggestion that there may have been some breach in the rules governing whether I may still stand as a councillor in Belsize, having moved to Tufnell Park Road (Critics hit at absentee councillor, September 20). It is presented as though the Labour Party are the only real authorities on electoral law in Camden and I welcome the opportunity to set the record straight for all of those who, like me, profoundly dislike such mealy mouthed suggestions of impropriety.
The rules state that a councillor’s primary place of residence or primary place of income must come from within the borough that that councillor is a member of. I have been, ever since I was elected in 2006, only employed as a local councillor for Belsize Ward. I doubt if many of the Labour members can claim to be so dedicated to their public roles.
I work day in, day out for the residents of my ward and wholeheartedly reject this sly innuendo from Camden’s Labour Party. I can only assume that as they have no policies worth talking about they have resorted to this type of underhand and deceitful behaviour in desperation. Both you and the Labour Party, can be rest assured that I shall continue to represent Belsize full time until, and beyond, the next election.
