Camden Year 6 District Team
Flying start to campaign

District Football

FOOTBALLERS from Camden’s district team were celebrating on Saturday after getting their campaign in the Lester Finch Trophy off to a flying start with victory over Barking and Dagenham at Regent’s Park.
The impressive Danny McCarthy, who goes to St Dominic’s Primary School in Gospel Oak, scored a spectacular opening goal when his dangerous in-swinging corner went straight into the back of the net.
Centre back John Souster also went close as his powerful header was cleared off the line.
The Year 6 squad battled to hold on to their advantage, but early in the second half the visitors finally found a way past Camden’s resilient defence to level the scores.
With the game heading for a draw, player of the match Souster, who goes to New End Primary School in Hampstead, rifled home a low drive from just inside the penalty area to earn Camden a thrilling 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile neighbouring rivals Islington had an afternoon to forget as they were beaten 7-1 by Brent in their match at Campdale Road in Tufnell Park.
Despite going a goal down early on, Islington battled back to level the scores with a well-taken goal by Kevin Butler.
But that was as good as it got for the home side, as Brent went on to seal a commanding victory.
The result leaves Islington with one point from their opening two games, having earned a 2-2 draw against Haringey in their opening game thanks to strikes from Tevin Alebiosu and Jason Williams.
