Bridge in more trouble

KILBURN shopkeepers are furious that Camden Council has again extended the completion date for a £7-million construction project that has blighted their Christmas trade.
The strengthening work to Kilburn High Road Bridge will be at least three months behind schedule when it wraps up in January 2007, a year after work started.
Contractors laid temporary tarmac on the 150-year-old bridge after businesses said fencing around building works obstructed Christmas shoppers.
The stop-gap measure is intended to allow access to shops whose trade has been heavily disrupted by massive road works and closed pavements.
But traders said that contractors will have to rip up and replace the tarmac with paving slabs in the new year.
