Harriers’ clean sweep on muddy home turf

HIGHGATE Harriers enjoyed a clean sweep in the London Championships on Saturday over a hilly and muddy Parliament Hill Fields.
The Harriers women team continue to dominate the field as they sealed a top three finish. Svenja Abel came home in first place, closely followed by Esther Evans. Kate Jenrick rounded off the medal haul as she came in third.
Meanwhile a depleted Highgate men’s team also picked up a resounding victory, despite the absence of international runners Ben Noad and Keith Cullen.
Team Captain Henry Dodwell led by example as he clinched 11th place out of a field of more than 260 finishers. He was closely followed by team-mate Nicky Martyn, who finished as the highest placed veteran in 12th spot.
There were also impressive performances from Glen Saqui and Chris Beecham, who finished in 16th and 20th place respectively.
The Highgate men’s B team also put in a spirited display, with Ryan McKinlay, Saningo Martyn and Peter Downie all scoring well.
Elsewhere top junior Alice Keane finished second for Middlesex in her under-15s race.
