Hoop-happy fever hits school courts

BASKETBALL fever gripped the borough this week as scores of hoop-happy youngsters took to the courts.
Secondary school pupils from Acland Burghley, Hampstead, Parliament Hill and South Camden Community School turned out for the Federation Basketball Master Classes, where they were given top tips on how pass and shoot.
Coached by Acland Burghley’s Head of PE Basil Muhammad, the Year 7 students were taken through their paces before being given the chance to show off their new skills in a mini-tournament.
After a series of testing head to heads, there was double delight for Acland Burghley School and Hampstead School as both their boys and girls’ teams netted glory in their respective competitions.
Youngsters returned to the courts at Acland Burghley on Tuesday when they took part in the Camden Secondary Schools Year 8 Federation Basketball Tournament.
The stars of the show were the girls’ team from Haverstock, who scored more baskets than any other side in the competition as they overcame sides from Burghley, Hampstead, South Camden and Parliament Hill to be crowned champions.
Haverstock completed a clean sweep in the boys’ final, tipping Burghley, South Camden and Hampstead to the winners’ trophy.
