Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 December 2006

Cop shop is not closing

• ED Fordham and his band of “scaremongering” cronies continue to bang on about the lack of “consultation” about the closure of police stations in Camden (Police need to talk to the community, Dec 7).
I am not sure which of the words of the chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, Len Duvall’s, letter – “the MPA are committed to not closing any police station in any borough in London without full local consultation” – Mr Fordham does not understand.
Whilst his comments can be dismissed as not only disingenuous and electioneering there is a very real danger to his actions. The MPA is currently going through a large rebuilding programme to modernise the buildings in which police work and the custody suites in which people are detained. I gather Camden is currently not at the top of the priority list.
If Mr Fordham is so desperate to work with the police I suggest he and his colleagues turn their efforts to seeing how Camden can put pressure on the MPA to improve working conditions for our police officers and persons detained in custody. The present Lib Dem and Tory tactics, an only hinder the case for improvements to police buildings in Camden.
