Camden New Journal - THE CROW by RICHARD OSLEY & CATHERINE ETOE
Published: 7 December 2006

The natural order of things - Spurs are best

IT'S the children I feel sorry for.
Never is football banter more fun that at school - but there are young Spurs supporters who have gone through their entire secondary education without seeing their team beat Arsenal. Not even once.

It's now six years since Tottenham managed it. Think of those little blighters. They have grown up thinking, quite reasonably, that it is natural for Tottenham to get battered every time they play Arsenal. They don't expect anything else. When they think of the derby, they think of Arsenal winning.
Those dozy Spurs kids have never been able to strut into school on a Monday morning, chalk 3-0 up on the board and re-enact the goals with a scrunched up ball of homework. Ah well. Asbos for them. 'A' grades for the Gooners.
Some of us never grow out of such childish antics - and why should we when beating Tottenham 3-0 is still so much fun. Watch out for the scrunched up notepaper because we won, you lost, we won, you lost. Nur nur nur nur.

IF you're so sure it's our 'Cup Final' why are you lot mincing around like you've won the Champions League (which at this rate, looks as likely as an Arsenal shirted Thierry winning that Euro footballer of the year gong).

Thanks anyway to those Gooners who texted me on Saturday. All 681 of you.
Apart from Richard Osley that is, who just sent back the text I'd sent him midweek when Arsenal lost to a team they haven't been beaten by for a whacking 44 years.
Thankfully, my night of sobbing under that Lilychoc duvet was soon hushed by Gran. The wise old crone set me straight as she dabbed my wet cheeks and patted my Cock'n'Ball ensignia.
"If Spurs beat Chelski," she whispered, "then Arsenal beat Spurs, but were beaten by Fulham and West Ham, who Spurs have beaten while drawing with Fulham, then Spurs are still the best team in London." Thanks Gran. Switch the light off on your way out.
