Tram route row

TRAM planners have distanced themselves from a proposed route through housing estates in Somers Town for a £650 million cross river link.
In response to protests from residents and councillors to the possible route outlined in Cross River Tram publicity, a spokesman for Transport for London (TfL) said: “The route is just one of a series of possible alternatives.
“ We are launching an opportunity for people to lodge their views on what the right route should be.”
The Cross River partnership scheme backed by Mayor Ken Livingstone, outlines a 16.5 kilometre cross river tram from Southwark and Lambeth linking Aldwych, Russell Square, Euston and Camden Town, with a spur line between Mornington Crescent and King’s Cross.
TfL launched a consultation on the scheme on Monday, the first step in a process that could take until 2016.
