Court appearance over recluse death

A MAN accused of the murder of Hampstead recluse Allan Chappelow appeared briefly at Highbury Magistrates Corner on Wednesday morning.
Wang Yam, 41, a Chinese national who gave his address as Denning Road, West Hampstead, was committed to trial at the Old Bailey in February.
Mr Yam was arrested in a small Swiss town of Zug at the foot of the Alps on the day Mr Chappelow was cremated in September.
Police had issued an international arrest warrant for the suspect after he disappeared following the discovery of the reclusive Mr Chappelow’s body in June at his ramshackle Georgian home in Downshire Hill. They flew with Mr Yam back to Heathrow airport on Tuesday night where he was placed in custody.
