No wonder dog bites increasing
• SPECIFIED dangerous breeds of dogs such as Japanese tosa, pit bull terrier, Rottweiler, Doberman and Alsation were banned from being kept or brought onto Camden Council residential properties in 1992.
However, Rottweiler numbers are increasing on council estates and they are allowed to regularly run loose without a muzzle in children’s play areas even where there is a resident caretaker.
The new tenancy agreements which came into force this month mentions the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 without specifying the banned breeds, but council leaseholders are not routinely informed about dog legislation.
So it is not surprising that you report that the Royal Free Hospital is inundated with victims of dog bites and it is getting worse.
