Awards for police who rescued bomb victims
HEROIC police officers from Camden whose actions saved lives during the terrorist attacks on July 7 last year have been honoured at a ceremony.
Sixty Camden officers have now been awarded top bravery commendations for their roles following the bombing of three Tube trains and a number 30 bus in Tavistock Square in which 56 people died.
In the latest awards, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair presented high commendations to Sergeant Neil Payn and PC Andrew Croft and a commendation to PC Barrie Mitchell.
Kentish Town officer Sgt Payn, 39, entered the tunnel at Russell Square station after an explosion on a Piccadilly line train. He said: “There were a lot of injured to deal with but I don’t think any of us thought about it until after.” PC Croft, who was with Kentish Town sector team, helped victims in Tavistock Square and PC Mitchell was a member of the North West Search Team, Viking 101. |
