Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 2 November 2006

Camden's not alone on having misspelt signs

CAMDEN is not the only borough to see misspellings.
At the age of 81 - I left school at 14 in the last week of August 1939 because of the start of World War II - I see it everywhere I go.
We have a similar sign for 'Gospal Oak' nearby on Palmer Place near Holloway Road for diversion reasons. It has been there for several weeks.
I also wrote to the GLA on several occasions for similar reasons especially with regard to 'Haringay' as it was till 1965, which became Haringey, much to the disgust of an office colleague at the time.
I've lived in Muswell Hill from 1937 and have been often heard to say: "If I'd wanted to live in Haringey I'd have moved there when I got married." (Muswell Hill was swallowed up by that council).
Name and address supplied

BEING somewhat late in catching up with our Journal, I am prompted to write after reading about signs in our area (Shurely shome mistake? Oct 19), however mine is a slightly different story.
Two weeks ago I phoned Camden Council about the seat a little way up from Shirlock Road on the other side of Mansfield Road. It is in a very poor condition, in that both support bars at the base of the seat are rusted through, so there are really no good supports.
I see mums with babies, elderly people using that seat. I on the other hand refuse to while waiting for the C11 bus.
I only hope basically that nobody would knowingly let anyone sit in danger.
J KEMP
Shirlock Road, NW3
