Youngsters from Hampstead FC prepare for a new era as the club goes from strength to strength
Academy plans for Hampstead

Youth club expands to encourage talent

ONE of the leading youth football clubs in London is set to get even bigger after announcing the launch of their newest academy.
Hampstead Football Club will be snapping up their youngest batch of players yet after unveiling plans to get boys aged between six to eight years old more involved in the game.
The idea behind the project is to encourage footballers from across Camden and Islington to start developing their talent at an earlier age, helping them sharpen their skills and become better players.
Hampstead already boast more than 20 boys and girls teams that play in a number of top competitions across the capital, including the Harrow League, the Regent’s Park League and the Middlesex Girls League.
Hampstead Development Manager Mike Powell revealed: “This is the most exciting thing that has happened to the club in recent years.
“There’s a wealth of undeveloped talent out there, and it would be fantastic to be able to get them playing football on a more regular basis.
“Every season we have to turn away around 400 youngsters because we just don’t have the facilities to accommodate them. The introduction of our new academy will hopefully change that and allow us to gradually take on board more youngsters.
“Within the next couple of years Hampstead could easly double in size.”
The man given the task or producing Hampstead’s first team of tiny talents is senior coach Sean McCarthy.
McCarthy has led Hampstead’s under-9s to back-to-back titles in the Camden and Islington Youth League at Market Road over the past two seasons. He will handpick a squad of 14 players, who will be put into an advance group as Hampstead look to start developing their very own players each season.
The Academy is limited to the first 35 registrations. Anyone interested can contact Mike Powell on 07812 018 113.
