Gunner Girls on song… Rachel Yankey and Emma Hayes
Uefa Cup glory beckons

UEFA Cup Quarter Final
Arsenal 4, Breideablik 1
(Arsenal win 9-1 on aggregate)

FORMER Camden schoolgirls Rachel Yankey and Emma Hayes toasted Arsenal’s success in Europe on Thursday night.
The Gunners, coached by ex-Parliament Hill School pupil Hayes, made it into their third semi-final in four years with an emphatic victory over Breideablik in front of almost 800 fans at Boreham Wood FC.
A delighted manager Vic Akers said afterwards: “This year everything seems to be fitting into place for us.” Hampstead School old girl Yankey made sure of that, winning the corner that set up Julie Fleeting for the first goal after just six minutes and scoring the fourth herself two minutes from time.
A superb solo effort by Kelly Smith extended the Gunners’ lead but the Icelandic champions withstood wave after wave of Arsenal attacks and pulled a goal back on 64 minutes.
Keeper Emma Byrne looked to have dealt with a high free kick but dropped the ball and Laufey Bjornsdottir stabbed it home.
Substitute Karen Carney added a third though on 82 minutes from a Yankey cross and the ex-Hampstead pupil completed the rout with a low volley two minutes from time.
Arsenal will now face Brondby in the semis and having already beaten the Danish side in the group stages, look set to go all the way this year.
Akers added: “For the first time in Europe we’ll be the favourites to win the game.”
The Gunners topped their week with a 4-1 win over Everton on Sunday that took them to the top of the Premiership table. A Fleeting brace and goals from Smith and Lianne Sanderson settled it.

Greater London League
Division One
Hadley 1, Camden 2

TOWN are eighth after this hard fought victory over Hadley on Sunday.
Susanna Twidale opened for the visitors after 10 minutes with a shot from just inside the area.
The home side pulled one back straight after the restart but Town took all three points when Carmel Clinton intercepted a back pass, rounded the keeper and slotted home from a tight angle.

Division Three South
Wembley Lionesses 3, Katabella 5

A STRONG Katabella performance saw the Camden side climb to second in the table with victory over Wembley Lionesses on Sunday.
Helen Frazer put the Kats ahead but the visitors were trailing 2-1 by half time.
Kats never gave up though and winger Ewa Hollender levelled before Frazer and Jasmin Crilly put them back in control.
Wembley clawed one back but Frazer completed her hat-trick to secure a well deserved victory.
