Camden New Journal - by JANE WILD
Published: 19 October 2006

Research for Will Self ‘lost’

A RESEARCHER is pleading for the return of a notebook containing a year’s worth of research – some of which is for author Will Self – after it was taken from a Camden Town phone box.
Much of the research is topography – the study of the lie of the land – and was painstakingly being compiled for Will Self’s next book.
The notebook contains detailed descriptions of river systems, plants, and structures, meticulously recorded after months of walking around London.
Nick Papadimitriou left it inside a phone box in Camden High Street on a Tuesday afternoon two weeks ago after making a call.
It is a black, A4 size, hardback notebook, with packing tape covering the spine.
Mr Papadimitriou, of Golders Green, said: “It’s irreplaceable. I’m heartbroken and losing sleep.”
“I have to admit, I was very careless. I waited all day to speak to the rubbish collector and I went to the police, but no luck. There was a phone number inside, but the problem is that it was an old number I am not using any more.”
Mr Papadimitriou is also a writer and has published papers on conservation and ecology in scientific journals, as well as contributing to a new book of essays entitled London: City of Disappearances, along with Will Self and J G Ballard.
