Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published 19 October 2006

Shurely shome mistake?

I HAVE three times telephoned Camden Council and left a message for the person in charge of street direction signs to call me about a misspelled sign. No response. Perhaps you can help – even take a picture?
The sign, on the corner of Mansfield Road and Southampton Road, points the way to ‘Gospal Oak’ railway station, rather than ‘Gospel Oak’. Since this is the name of the neighbourhood as well, it is doubly offensive.
I should also like to point out that the name is misspelled on both sides of the sign – it would be just like Camden’s geniuses to fix just one side.
Why did they put up these hideous signs anyway? They point people to sites two minutes away, which everyone knows.
Another sign, directing people to the Royal Free Hospital, pointed away from it before that was fixed a few months ago. Can we please have an end to these “improvements” which are actually embarrassments.
