Harriers off to a flier as x - country season opens

• HIGHGATE women continued their winning streak with victory in the Horsendon cross-country relays on Saturday, which were held at Perivale.
Veterans Kate Jenrick and Astrid Wingler were the first and third fastest on the day, completing their individual 2.5m lengths in times of 14 minutes, 39 seconds, and 14m, 48secs respectively.
Following on from their resounding victory in the St Albans cross-country relay last month, Ann Curley completed the team line-up with a time of 15m, 31secs as the Harriers A team sealed a convincing win.
The Harriers B team of Natasha Cendrowicz, Sarah Chapman and Tessa Omer put on a spirited performance as they finished sixth.

HIGH-FLYING Harrier Esther Evans put on a stunning display in the International Triathlon Union (ITU) European Championships over the weekend, held in Italy. Competing for Great Britain, Evans finished first in both her running splits as she came fifth overall in the 30-34 year olds women’s event.
Meanwhile in the men’s 30-34 year olds event, Highgate’s Jeremy Rogers just missed out on a top 10 finish as he came 12th for the British team.

TOP veteran Chris Bailey flew the flag for the Harriers in the Dulwich 10k road race on Sunday as he finished eighth out of a field of over 500, coming home in a time of 35m, 37secs. Ryan McKinlay was also in action on Sunday as he started his winter season in style with an impressive performance in the Nike Run London road race at Hyde Park.

RUNNERS from London Heathside were out in force over the weekend.
Among the top performers was Vanessa Parry, who finished second fastest in the Horsenden cross-country relays. Joined by Angela Evans and Katie Meredith, Parry recorded an individual time of 14m, 42secs to help Heathside secure second spot, behind Highgate Harriers.
Elsewhere Felicity Smith recorded a new personal best in the Regent’s Park 10k road race.
