Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published 12 October 2006

Does anyone have info on Lyndhurst?

THE great old Victorian building Lyndhurst Hall in Kentish Town has just been demolished to be replaced by flats.
I want to compile a history of the hall, and am making an appeal for anyone who has any memories, recollections, photos or paperwork with any connection to the hall to contact me.
My aim is to produce a small booklet of information and photos which will be presented to local history groups, libraries, archives and historical societies. This is a non-profit making research project and the resulting publication will be given free of charge.
I have a personal interest as my father (Alexander Dyos) was the resident caretaker of Lyndhurst Hall between 1964 (when it was bought by St Pancras Borough Council) and 1986 when he retired due to ill-health. Myself and my family lived in this building (the flat on the top floor) for 22 years and we therefore have many memories and some history to report for that period.
I would like to hear from anyone who had a connection with the hall – from people who took part in the various community activities that went on in the hall – to those who attended the nursery, men’s club, youth club, boxing club and the many others that used the hall, whenever this was.
It seems a shame that this building will probably now just vanish into local history, especially after the great contribution that it has made to community affairs.
So if you have any memories or information to tell me about, or send to me (I will be happy to reimburse copying costs for documents and photos) I can be contacted as follows: Email: C.A.Dyos@wlv.ac.uk; Phone: 01746 862600; Post: Riverside View, Hampton Loade, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, WB16 6BN
