Armed police seal off road

ALARMED residents were forced to stay indoors on Sunday evening when a man with a gun threatened to kill himself in West Hampstead.

Police cordoned off Lithos Road and evacuated women and children from Petros Gardens flats after a concerned neighbour made a 999 call.
At least 20 armed patrol officers, a police helicopter, firefighters and ambulances filled the street.
People were ordered not to leave their homes until the distressed man, aged 20, gave himself up at 10.15pm.
He was taken to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.
A 27-year-old Lithos Road resident said people feared a gunman was on the loose.
He added: “When I tried to leave my house police told me to get back inside because there was an incident. There were so many armed police about, we couldn’t really believe it.”
