Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published 28 September 2006

People unaware of refuse change

• JUDGING by the large number of garden waste bags littering the pavements in this area it is clear that many residents are still unaware that Camden Council no longer provides a weekly collection service.
This confusion is due to muddled thinking by Camden’s environment officer who, instead of letting the scheme run until the autumn, decided to cancel the service in the summer when demand for the service is at its highest. Notification was sent by letter at the beginning of August when many people were away on holiday.
I am sure that many, like me, returning to a swathe of junk mail, ditched the Camden notice unread hence the current confusion.
Nor are things any easier for people who wish to dispose of large items of furniture.
No longer can these be delivered to the Regis Road Waste Unit in Kentish Town. Now the nearest waste unit is in another borough at North Finchley.
Is it any wonder that many people choose to leave large items on street corners?
