Celeb match a big hit!

AN array of stars from sport and screen joined players from North Middlesex to take part in a special charity cricket match at the club’s Park Road ground in Crouch End.
Former Arsenal players Alan Smith and Lee Dixon, actor Rudolph Walker and Surrey batsman Scott Newman were among the stars who turned out as the North Middlesex Celebrity XI took on Bunbury Cricket Club to help raise money for the Whittington Hospital in Archway.
Returning for a third year, the thrilling fixture between the two teams has helped raise £20,000 for charity. With the previous two meetings being won by Bunbury, North Middlesex were desperate to finally taste victory in this mouth-watering showcase. Bunbury gave them a testing target as they notched up 222-4 off 35 overs. But the home team put in a resilient team performance to seal a memorable win with a score of 225-5 off 32.1 overs.
Watched by more than 1,200 spectators, the match raised more than £6,000 for Building for Babies, edging the Whittington Hospital past the half-way mark of their £600,000 target needed to help expand and purchase new equipment for sick and premature babies.
Organiser and North Middlesex captain on the day Gareth A Davies told the New Journal afterward the match: “I would like to thank Steve Young from The Pavilion at North Middlesex Cricket Club and the members from the Whittington Hospital who helped to make it a really enjoyable day.”
