Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 27 September 2007

Key role for Islamic centre

• MUSLIMS can pray at any mosque, regardless of race or culture (Just what kind of ‘Islamic centre’ do they propose? September 20).
What unites Muslims into one community is not where we came from – Bangladesh or Somalia – but the foundation of the Islamic belief, which is “There is only one god and Muhammad is the final messenger.”
Regent’s Park Mosque is not adequate for Muslims in Camden as a lot live some distance from the mosque.
Anyone who has seen mosques in Camden on Fridays will notice people praying outside due to lack of space.
Camden has a large Muslim community. With the new Channel Tunnel rail link and the 2012 Olympics, I believe that by having an Islamic Cultural Centre in Camden the Muslim community will be better placed to take the lead when it comes to promoting diversity.
