Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 27 September 2007

Just what’s affordable housing?

• Readers will be aware of the huge new property development being planned on the site of the old Middlesex Hospital, recently sold by University College London Hospitals for £175 million.
Though many assurances were given to the local community that a significant number of units would be for ‘affordable housing’, the CPC group chief operations officer is quoted in the September 20 (Channel Islands) Guernsey Press as saying that the development is to “cater to the needs of dynamic professionals”.
The chief finance officer was also quoted as saying that “… a couple of the penthouses may be very expensive, but most units will be in the low millions”.
Could this really be the new yardstick to determine the price of “affordable housing” in Camden?
Dr Alan Berson, WC1
