Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 September 2007

Are they stealing history?

• I WAS wondering if there is a plaque thief about.

Over the last few months several plaques to famous people or places have disappeared in Hampstead.
Among these are the Old Hampstead and Heath Society plaque to John Constable which was on his former cottage in Lower Terrace, the plaque to Mark Gertler on his studios opposite the White Bear and the one on Holly Mount to the Old Hampstead watch lock up.
Is there an outbreak of thieving or have they been removed for restoration, I would like to know.
They are all part of Hampstead’s fascinating past.
