Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 September 2007

Behaviour is better

• CORRESPONDENCE in your paper prior to the summer holidays regarding Safer Neighbourhoods policing, especially in the Haverstock area, has given the impression that engagement with local teams is a futile activity with no end result.
Although we cannot comment on the situation in Haverstock, we wish to give your readers an alternative and opposite view of Safer Neighbourhoods policing. Our experience in Kilburn and neighbouring areas is that there has been an improvement in anti-social behaviour since the local teams were formed – this is not to say that everything is now perfect but that a start has been made.
Involvement of local residents and workers is an important aspect of this type of policing – the more that are involved in reporting incidents the better and more responsive policing will be.
Moaning on the sideline and saying that there is no way to contact the police is no longer an option. Safer Neighbourhoods Teams could do with more resources – could not we all? We would urge all your readers to get involved in their Safer Neighbourhoods team and report incidents to them to combat anti-social behaviour.
