Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 September 2007

Time to curb this parking money-grabbing machine

I AM a resident of NW1, living on Ossulston Street near the British Library.
We are quite use to feral parking attendants round here and I have been issued several tickets over the years, contested all and never paid one.
But his morning, September 18, they (the parking attendants) really did take the biscuit!
At 9:09 a ticket was issued on a vehicle that had a pay and display ticket with 9:10 in rather large black print written all over it! This was my partner’s hire car. You may ask how I knew it was 9:09? because that was the time on the BBC’s morning programme.
I called down to the attendant and told her it was too early, and got waved away with not even a bye or leave, so picking up pad and pen I went down to speak to her. Now, directly outside my flat, which is up towards the Shaw Theatre there are two pay and display machines, which I checked and found that the times displayed varied by over five minutes, and neither machine was even close to the time showed by the attendants hand-held printer!
As you can probably guess, not one showed the time as displayed by the BBC, (they were all fast.)
What can we do as residents of this money grabbing council to stop this? I for one have had enough. To say it’s beyond a joke just will not do. It’s time the people we have voted in start looking out for the needs of it’s electorate and not penalising innocent people and tasking their hard earned money.
