Provide us with accessible forms, leaflets and letters
• THE letter (Campaign against means tests for poor and frail, September 6) from Ben Hall, on behalf of the Campaign Against Care Charges –which expresses intense dissatisfaction with the attacks by Camden Council on the care services needed by the poorest and most vulnerable people of the borough, the disabled and the old – has the complete support of Visually Impaired in Camden.
What the letter does not emphasise is the unfairness of the council’s system which denies the use of forms, leaflets and letters in large print or on audio-tape versions of them.
As a result the visually impaired of Camden, probably numbering up to 1,000 affected persons, are in great danger of being misled and deprived of justice and respect.
How can it be fair, just for example, that a basic leaflet like Careline Community Alarm Service is available in small print English, Bengali, Chinese, Chinese, Gujerati, Somali and French, but not in large print or audio-tape in any language?
