Celebrating the beauty of nature in the city centre

City Harvest Festival offers a light-hearted take on county show

CITY farms and community gardens will come together for a one-day celebration of farming and gardening hosted by Capel Manor College, Enfield, in September.
A family event, City Harvest Festival will be a light-hearted take on a county show, with children entering animals from their local farm in competitions, such as best pony, or animal that looks most like its owner.
Winners from the 17 city farms and 60 community gardens will take home prizes and trophies in the seventh annual festival.
Last year’s event saw blacksmiths from Surrey Docks farm, in Rotherhithe, forging winners’ trophies on the day.
Catherine Miller, London Regional Worker, based at Kentish Town City farm, said: “As London becomes more built up it is harder for people to have access to the natural environment.
“City farms are essential places to learn about nature in a natural way. If you see a chicken lay an egg with your own eyes that is so much more powerful than learning in a classroom.”
A family holiday to Canada is also up for grabs with winners of a kids’ photography competition being announced on the day.
To enter see www.farmgarden.org.uk/photocompetition.
City Harvest Festival takes place on 23 September at Capel Manor College, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, EN1 4RQ, between 10am and 4pm, adults £5 and children £2.
