Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 September 2007

What took so long?

• I AM relieved to read that Cllr Flick Rea has finally reacted positively to the strong views of future customers at the Kentish Town swimming baths (No unisex please, we’re changing, August 30).
We are now promised, I hope, stress-free showering and changing facilities at the baths, which are totally separated from the opposite sex and where women can, in all security and confidence, shower and change among people of their own sex.
I am a recent graduate who now works long hours in the City.
It is imperative that I get some exercise every day.
The proposed refurbishment of the baths being a 10-minute walk from my home will be perfect for a quick swim in the morning, followed by a shower and dash to work.
The earlier proposed mixed sex ‘Village’ idea, however, would have precluded me from taking advantage of such a wonderful amenity.
As John Anderson pointed out in his letter of August 23, “People do not have the luxury of getting up early for a swim and then going back home to have a bath or shower before heading for work. There just are not enough hours in the day.”
Thank you, Cllr Rae, for listening. But what took you and your architects so long to understand the reality on the ground?
