Miriam Baldock
Murder victim to be laid to rest

FAMILY and friends of a popular matriarch who was murdered in the home she had always opened to those in need will unite in grief for her funeral tomorrow (Friday).
A team of horses will lead a cortege leaving Camden Town for the procession to Golders Green where the ceremony will be held for Miriam Baldock, who was found stabbed to death in the Maiden Lane estate on August 11.
Her husband Maurice Baldock, 60, who was gravely injured in the same attack, will lead the mourners.
Their son Stephen Barrow, 40, said he expected many friends to join his mother’s large family at the ceremony or the wake, which is planned for the Newmarket pub in Agar Grove. He said: “Everyone knew her, and a lot of people will want to pay their respects who we haven’t been able to speak to. Everyone who knew her is welcome.”
Miriam Baldock was described after her death aged 61 as “a mum to everyone” for her warm – and firm – welcome to those in need of shelter or support. She had lived in the Maiden Lane estate since 1982 and played an important role in establishing the estate’s community centre
The procession will start between 10.30am and 11am from Bayham Street, Camden Town, where Maurice Baldock has been recovering from his injuries and shock with his daughter Stephanie, away from the flat in Linkwood Walk where the early hours attack took place. He had been stabbed four times.
It will travel through Kentish Town, where the cortege will pause to pay tribute at the fire station in Highgate Road where Miriam Baldock worked for 20 years, and on to the West Chapel at Golders Green crematorium for the 12 noon ceremony.
