Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 30 August 2007

Swimming baths are important

• MY family, including our two children, campaigned really hard to save the Kentish Town swimming baths. These are important amenities for us and the whole community.
It is, therefore, particularly disappointing to see what Camden and their architects are proposing for this unique project (Trouble with trips to the pool, August 23).
What concerns me is if the architects find it so difficult to get to grips with the simple task of designing a suitable and acceptable single-sex arrangement for showering and changing, then what can we expect of the rest of the premises?
Will they be able to create pools which are fit for purpose or will we encounter all the technical problems that Swiss Cottage is now having to deal with?
And what about the Edwardian grade II listed building?
Will its refurbishment be handled sensitively and with competence?
Less time and money should be spent on costly nonsense in a misguided effort to create what they claim will be a 21st century “village” type situation which is clearly extremely unpopular with the swimmers.
More concentration should be on single-sex separate areas with modest, simple, clean showers and changing facilities.
